| Artist Statement: Homesteading, the claiming or staking of land, exploration, historical roots, and searching. The journey to discover an unknown past are the forefront of John’s art practice. Using ideas and imagery rooted in heraldry and natural history John looks at creating installation environments in which viewers are placed in an atmosphere comprised of fictional artifacts, which unravel memories and reenactments of a make believe past. The works are orchestrated in a somewhat minimalist manner where very specific and obscure artifacts are presented, allowing the viewer to transpose their own individual accounts of their past.
